Comparison between the Memory Foam Mattress and the Gel Foam Mattress.

September 15, 2018 //  by Tom Collins

Foam mattresses are among the most common options today because they provide better body support go for years without replacement. Here, you have to choose between memory or gel foam if you are to buy the foam mattress. Now, either type is a great option, but they are different from each other because of their unique properties.

For you to get the most restful and most profound slumber, depends on getting the best option for your slumber style as well as needs. It is best for you to learn everything that is vital to both gel and memory foam before you buy the mattress.

Here are some of the things that you will find:

Material

The difference between memory foam and gel foam comes from the viscoelastic material. The viscoelastic material is used to make the memory foam. The content was developed back in the 1970s with the aim of improving seat cushions as well as offering crash safety to the space shuttle. Because of its comfort, viscoelastic was however used to make a mattress. Nevertheless, for the gel foam, viscoelastic is infused with some gel. In most cases, there is even distribution of the gel throughout the viscoelastic, but there are few cases where it is found in one layer.

Heat Circulation

When it comes to heat retention, the gel foam mattress is better than the memory foam mattress. Memory foam mattress has a hard time letting the heat escape away from your body. It allows one to wake up soaked in a sweat whenever you wake up, and it makes one feel uncomfortable most of the time. However, for the gel mattress, the gel in it corrects all the heat by improving air circulation. Gel foam allows you to have a relaxed night after the heat escape. It is because it has some open cells, which will enable the flow of air in the mattress.

Cost

The cost of the types dramatically differs. Price of something is what most people always consider when it comes to comparing two things. Gel foam mattress is higher in cost than the memory foam mattress. The price differs because of the gel that is added to the usual material that is used to make the two types of foam mattresses.

Motion Transfer

The viscoelastic material does not transmit movement at night. Meaning, if you are sharing your bed with your partner and he or she turns or fidgets you will not be disturbed. However, the gel foam it may not be the best for you to get.

Response time

Memory foam mattresses have longer response time when compared to the gel products. The memory foam mattresses will take longer to go back to its regular shape. For the gel foam, less time is taken to respond.

Strong odor

There is the emission of some gases by the memory foam because of the chemicals in it. The substances have unpleasant smells that might affect some people. The scent can disappear over some time, but there are cases where it might last even for months. Some individuals suffer some respiratory diseases because of the odor. However, the strength of the smell is influenced by on the manufacturing process, and where the manufacturing process took place. For gel foam, the odor difficulties are not experienced at any time. The gel in it prevents any smell from the mattress.

Support

All products that are infused with gel are supportive when compared to those without the gel. The gel will prevent you from sinking into the mattress as you sleep or seat on it. However, it is soft enough to release the pressure points. It is central to the memory foam where you will sink in the mattress whenever you sleep on it or sit on it for long.

In conclusion, the best type of mattress should come down to cost and comfort. In my view, the gel foam mattress is the best. It will keep you fresh although there are other instances when it gets warm, changing your position will help this, and you will be guaranteed to wake up dry all the time. However, you can go for any type because the two mattresses function similarly the same.
